Update…day 15

Things have been going well here. We’re not eating as great as I would like to but we’re eating a lot healthier than we have in the past and that is GOOD. Addyson’s done great with her potty habits and then she’ll do bad for a few days then okay…we’re still learning and transitioning but overall I think we’re improving!

This past weekend I ran a half-marathon around Buffalo Springs Lake near Lubbock and it was AWFUL! It was officially the worst race course I have ever run. I was NOT prepared for the hills and I could never seem to get my stride/rhythm going. I finished but I finished almost 30 minutes slower than I was okay with. I have to run my butt off over the next 3 weeks to be ready for White Rock in Dallas on the 5th!!!

Days 4-8

Well the last 4-5 days have been a huge blur. Addyson got pretty sick on Thursday with a virus & it brought to light some more digestive issues she’s been having so we headed to the doc. No new news except that I think we’ve found an encouraging way to promote her to “go” on her own. We’ve created a Potty Chart and who would know it but the first day of the potty chart she went #2 FOUR times all on her own (without us forcing her to sit there when we could tell she was in agonizing pain). The driving factor is that she gets a sticker on her chart each time she goes and if she goes 5 days in 1 week she get a surprise. If this works I’m going to kick myself for not doing it 2 years ago! Oh well if it works it works!

With the sickness we stuck to mainly liquids and foods that she would eat but so far so good she’s doing pretty good about eating whatever I give her and not throwing a fit for other foods. Justin, I am proud to say, lost 5 pounds in the first week of his new habits!! I am so excited for him because I know he’s desired to loose weight for a long time now but just not had the will power to do it. This time we are ALL with him!

I ran 15 miles, well 14.82 miles, on Saturday in preparation for my half-marathon I’m running THIS Saturday at Buffalo Springs Lake. I was really worn out and thirsty all day Saturday but other than that I was not sore or anything like I thought I would be especially Sunday morning. I ran 4 miles last night (Monday) and my legs were like lead but other than that I fell great! This is all gearing up for the White Rock Marathon on December 5th in Dallas. Please pray for me!

3rd day

So today’s been interesting. Addyson’s not sleeping (once again) and I’m not sure what to do. I just looked at this article on How much sleep your child should get and we’re WAY off. Click here to read for yourself. So not only do we have a picky eater with digestive problems therefore she’s under-weight and very small for her age but now she’s getting MAYBE 9 hours of sleep a night and NO nap during the day. She’s about to turn 4 so I’m just trying to hope for better sleep soon (but truthfully I’ve been desiring that since she was 13 months:) ).

Back to eating healthy…last night I made baked chicken and sweet potatoe fries. Addyson refused to eat the chicken because it was spicy (it was shake-n-bake) and insisted that she didn’t like the fries. So we informed her that she had to eat at least 5 fries before she could eat ANYTHING else! That started the melt-down:( Justin was trying to talk her threw it when he threw out the “Addyson, you better be thankful for what you have. There are children that do not have any food to eat tonight and they will be hungry.”. To which Addy replied, “Where do they live, Dad?”. Justin said, “They live all over.” And then it came out…”Mom, can we bag this up and take it to those children because I don’t want it and they will.” I tried my very hardest not to laugh out loud.  Justin simply told her NO, you will eat the fries! She ended up eating them and liking them:)

November 2nd…

So day #1 is complete of the ‘New November’. Justin awoke with a “headache the size of Texas” which he contributed to sinuses & lack of caffeine (day 1). I too had a headache from no caffeine and had to look forward to a cranky 3 (almost 4) year-old little gal who woke up a total of FIVE times between 11:45 pm and 5 am. Today I hung a blanket over her half-circle window in her bedroom and we’ll see if that makes ANY difference or if we truly have a little one who just “isn’t tired, Mommy!”. So enough complaining ;). I’m trying VERY hard to keep my head about me when she keeps asking me for the little things like a piece of toast or macaroni and cheese instead of veggies and it’s only the SECOND DAY!! Prayers are needed in our house 🙂

So a few funny things that hav e happened recently that I haven’t blogged about:

Addyson had been trying my patience on Sunday mid-day as we were cleaning and cooking getting ready for our Halloween party for our friends and neighbors so when Justin came through the door I was telling her to just go to her room and chill out. Justin said, “Hey… what’s going on?”. To which Addyson replied, “Mommy’s frustreerrated with me Daddy because I keep getting her list longer”. Justin thought it was funny but it was simply very revealing to me:( I vowed then and there not to get upset with her when she is “in my way” helping because she simply doesn’t know any better. How I reacted only taught her that she wasn’t needed or wanted around at that time and I remember feeling that way in the kitchen growing up too so NO MORE!

Also today we were playing in Addyson’s room (all 3 of the babies were in there too) so Addyson decided we were all going to be princesses (except Owen was a prince). She wanted all the little princesses to wear crowns (we have at least 5 so it was just deciding which one would go to each that was the big decision). Once we were all ready she announced that we were all ‘good’ princesses but if anyone dared to press the magic button in the center of the table we would all magically change into evil princesses and Owen would have to kiss us all to break the spell. (We recently introduced her to Beauty and the Beast 😉 ). So anytime anyone got near the center of the table she would yell….”Watch out for the magic button!” I LOVE having a daughter with such a great imagination!

New Novemeber

We are all starting NEW things around our house this month and this being the 1st of the month I thought I’d write about it and ask you (whoever reads this blog, if anyone;) )to keep us accountable!

Justin is doing a self-proclaimed 30 days of discipline and working out, eating right and just overall being more disciplined. He started today and I pray that he keeps it up and does GREAT!!

Addyson has been having lots of digestive problems once again and this time instead of giving more and more meds I’ve decided we’re going to tackle it with her diet. You see she’s going to be 4 on the 19th of this month and weighs 26.8 pounds (on a good day). Her diet consists of chips & dip, grilled cheese sandwiches, yogurt, mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets (only from McDonalds or Chik-fil-a), cheese pizza, salad (lettuce, croutons & tomatoes), tacos (some of the times), milk, and apple juice. We have been giving her (doctor’s orders) an adult dosage of Miralax everyday for over 2 years now and it never really seems to make that much of a difference:(.  She has taught herself how to hold it in (gas included) until it is too painful to hold it anymore. She will sometimes hold it in so much that she begins to run a low-grade fever due to her straining to hold it in. She does show us outward signs that she needs to go but then refuses (cries and screams the entire time we make her sit on the potty) to go. There are times that she holds it so much that she starts bleeding AND she has 2 hemorrhoids…what 4 year-old has those! So, we started today REALLY limiting what she eats…not limiting so much but introducing new foods or natural foods; veggies, fruits, yogurts, etc. I’m not really sure what we were thinking starting this the day after Halloween but so far so good (7 hours in)! She’s never willingly eaten a grilled chicken breast and today for lunch she ate 5 bites!! Anyway we’ll see how it goes, please join us in praying that we can stay strong with her as her parents to help her heal! Also as many of you may have already guessed but we’re all going to be eating these new all natural foods starting today so please pray. I haven’t had a Dr.Pepper today and my head is beginning to pound 😦

On top of those 2 things I’ve finally registered for and committed to DO A MARATHON! Many of you who know me know that this has been a dream of mine for a very long time so I am so pumped about it! I don’t care how long it takes me, I have no goal in mind except to FINISH! I’ll be running a few races over the next month to prepare:) So if you’re in the Lubbock area and want to come support me here they are:
I’m running the half-marathon at Buffalo Springs Lake on November 13th @ 9:00 am. You have to pay the gate fee to get into the race course, it is $5.
I’m running the Turkey Trot in Mackenzie Park on Thanksgiving Day @ 9:00 am. There are a few of my friends running this one to so it should be lots of fun!

My marathon….MetroPCS Dallas White Rock, Sunday, December 5th @ 8:00 am in Fair Park, Dallas, TX.

Ok so that pretty much sums up our NEW November stuff. I hope to keep you updated often (I’m not even going to try and say daily because I know I will fail!).
