Owen turns 2!

So two years ago today I was blessed with a little addition to our family that will forever change my life. Owen David was born! He is the cutest little guy I’ve ever known and I can’t wait to see him grow-up into the man of God that I know he will be!

How would I describe Owen this year…well here it is in three words, Adventurous Little Sponge!
He is beyond adventurous, he has no fear! He will jump off a jungle gym, climb up a rope ladder, run out the front door into the parking lot of our apartments, and he will hide (as quiet as a snake) for LONG periods of time without making a noise only to laugh hysterically when you finally find him. While he is little for his age (following in his sister’s footsteps on the growth charts) he is packed full of energy! He loves to use his little legs to RUN everywhere.
His favorite phrase to say right now is, “Follow me…I show you…”, and he takes your hand to show you whatever he has discovered. He is always learning, you can just see his little brain churning all day long as he uses new words and learns to do new things (most of which his big sister teaches him). He LOVES animals! He can name almost any animal AND tell you what sound it makes. He’s learning all about the different kids of dinosaurs too so much so that I bought him a t-shirt with a dinosaur on it and when I put it on him the other day, he said, “It Stegosaurus!!”, I just knew it was a dinosaur and sure enough, it was a Stegosaurus. He has also discovered television and at times asks for some shows by name. (We can already tell we’ll have to limit his tv time very soon!) His favorite shows (that he asks for by name) are Wild Kratts, Dino Dan, and the Backyardigans. His favorite food is “caroni and cheese” (Macaroni and Cheese) and he will eat an entire package comapred to his sister’s half portion (if we’re lucky).
He’s also very cute (his sister’s words). His eyes just melt your heart (not only mine but his teachers at school too). The best way to describe him is to give you a glimpse into his life this past year so here are some pictures Addyson helped me pick out!

One Day

One Day by David Nicholls

It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

This was a great story…placed over the span of decades of their lives. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, I’ve heard mixed reviews. Overall I recommend it as a good pick-up anytime read!

Trip to Aunt Laura & Uncle Devin’s

We had a blast at Aunt Laura and Uncle Devin’s house! Owen LOVED the dogs, Torres & Oso. He liked telling them to “follow me boys” & “sit now”. If we were out and about around town he would ask to go to Laura’s house to see Oso & Torres, it was soooo cute. We did a ton of fun stuff while we were there: watched Aunt Laura run her 4th marathon (she did AWESOME!!!), tried “sushi dip” or soy sauce and rice for the first time (he just loved the soy sauce on its own), and walked all around to see the great city that Aunt Laura loves. We also watched Uncle Devin play a game of soccer and ate some yummy meals from Aunt Laura’s kitchen! We got to see the famous Coava shop and see Uncle Devin do his thing behind the counter making yummy beverages!

I will have to say I was very impressed with Owen’s flying skills on the way to Portland. We shared a seat on our first leg (from Dallas to Austin) and then thankfully we were granted an extra seat for Owen for the 4 and a half hour trip to Santa Cruz, CA. We landed there for our 3 hour lay-over and he got to run through the whole airport (including sneaking back into the security check-point area as I was chasing him down). We finally boarded for Portland on a full flight so Owen had to sit in my lap again for the hour and a half trip to Oregon. He did great!

We arrived in Portland and Aunt Laura was waiting…Owen wasn’t too sure at first but warmed up real quick when we got to the house and there were DOGS there. He loved playing with and bossing around the dogs. He learned very quickly to tell them to “sit down now” and to “come here boys”. He would head out of the room and say, “Follow me Torres and Oso”.

The next morning we were able to see Devin in his element at Coava. Check them out here: . We had a great cup of joe and headed out to walk to the waterfront. It was a bit chilly for us Texans but we stuck in there :). We then headed back to the car and went to the Marathon location to pick-up Laura’s gear for the big race day on Sunday. We ate some Burgers from Burgerville and headed back to the house to chill for a bit. Devin had an inter mural soccer game that evening that we enjoyed for a bit then we had REALLY good pizza at a little local place there. We had a sweet corn pizza that was probably one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had.

We hung out at the house on Saturday to give Laura a chance to rest and relax for the big race on Sunday. We had some really good fresh pasta thanks to chef Devin! Oh yeah and I got to go to the Nike Outlet store and stock up on some winter running gear too!!

Sunday morning we awoke EARLY and headed to the race. We walked and walked and walked and cheered and cheered and walked and walked and cheered and cheered and walked and cheered…you get the jist 🙂 She did great!!! We got to see a few of her friends too which was great, I hadn’t seen them since the wedding 3 years ago. We ate lunch from a little place downtown then headed home. Later that evening we went to some friends house to watch the Packers game and got to meet some more of the Coava family.

Monday we relaxed again at the house and Laura’s friend Ashley (who also ran) came over for a bit. Laura made a great lunch of Chicken Spaghetti (just like we had growing up) while we watched some non-cartoon tv while Owen napped. Later, we went for a little walk to loosen their muscles and get some VERY good icecream at Ruby Jewel. For dinner we headed to a Sushi place downtown where Owen had his first taste of “Sushi Dip” (soy sauce). He kept saying, “More dip” and Devin had a fun time feeding it to him.

Tuesday morning we got up and around, packed and headed out to see Devin at Coava before we flew out. Laura took us to a great little bagel place for breakfast and then we headed to the airport. We had one REALLY long flight with 3 different destinations in store so when we got to the airport and there was a little play area I took full advantage! We stayed on the same plane the entire day and Owen did great considering. He fussed quite a bit at take off and landing but was good during the in-between and finally fell asleep after we were in the air on the second leg from San Jose to Austin which was a huge blessing!

Overall we had a GREAT trip and we miss Laura and Devin very much (and the dogs too)!!! I am so proud of them both and look forward to watching them grow-up even more 🙂

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy of our time in Portland!

Heading home…

So Owen’s been up and ready since 5:45 am (7:45 am our time) this morning to head on back to Fort Worth. I’m not sure he knows that we’ll be on a plane for over 7 hours later today. We’ve had a BLAST here and I’ll be writing about all our adventures with pictures included very soon! Please join me in praying for not-full flights so that Owen can have his own seat (by the window) for the 3 flights home.

We will definitely miss Aunt Laura and Uncle Devin (and Torres and Oso) but have a had a great time hanging out and doing lots of new things!!

Laura and I at her wedding 3 years ago

So today Owen and I are traveling to see my sister & brother-in-law in Portland, OR. I am writing this in the wee hours of the morning so I don’t really know what today will be like but I’m writing this asking for your prayers. Traveling with a toddler is not the easiest thing to do and I will be alone on two 2+ hour flights all while navigating time changes too.

I’m SOO excited to see my sister and to finally get to see her run a marathon!! I love her and I am SO proud of her!!

School Update

So I wanted to give you an update of school for the kiddos.

Addyson LOVES school and is excited every morning to “go and learn more words”. She talks and talks and talks about Backpack Bear which is their little character that “teaches” them new things (it’s associated with the online learning they are doing at home too so we watch backpack bear sing songs and read books at home too). So I shouldn’t be surprised to see this month’s newsletter (shown below) and see Addyson featured loving on Backpack Bear. I am so proud of her for diving in and doing very well!

Owen enjoys the activities they do at school but not the act of going to school. Once we’re there and at the door the teachers have learned to coax him with play-dough or coloring and he goes right in. He loves to color and make stuff and he is the big talker in the classroom too (they tell me).

I’m so proud of both my kiddos and all they are learning about God and how to love His creation!

So my cousin Brad is now officially A RAZORBACK. He has played 3 plays for them and I am so proud!!! Here are some pics from the amazing game on Saturday, in which the Hogs drilled the Aggies in the 3rd quarter and held on to win!!
