New Thru 30 – Day 5
Read Romans 8-16.
Romans 8 reminds us that IF we are in Christ we are NOT controlled by our sinful nature but are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. Verses 11 says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.” It’s hard to remember this truth in our every day lives but it is truth. AND not only does he live through us in His Spirit but he helps us in our weakness (verse 26). So I know that everyday I sin and everyday I make bad choices (as we’re teaching Addyson) but does He continue to live in me as I live in sin??? YES! Romans 8:35-39 remind me of His promise to me, His child. “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” AMAZING! We have a Savior who loves us NO MATTER WHAT!
The rest of Romans is an opportutnity for Chris followers to glean from Paul’s amazing life experiences. Chapter 12 is all about living in sacrifice to God, verses 1-3 sum it up well: And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.3 Because of the privilege and authorityGod has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”
Chapter 13, Respect your authority. This one hit close to home with the National election just around the corner.
Chapter 14 & 15, you will be persecuted but be careful to live in harmony with others. Romans 15:7 says, “Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.” Wow, what a lesson.
And in the final chapter and a half Paul reminds us of why he was writing this letter and that we are to pray for and support those who bring similar messages for Christ followers for the future.
Man, I can’t believe I did it but I read the ENTIRE book of Romans in TWO DAYS!!!
